FORT CASIMIR & THE STRUGGLE FOR THE DELAWARE VALLEY

This exhibition explored New Castle's European beginnings through the history of Fort Casimir, established in 1651 by the Dutch. The exhibit highlighted the history of the fort, conflicts that it was involved in, and recent archaeological investigations that have shed new light on the fort and the lives of 17th century European settlers in the New Castle area. The Perfection of Travelling explored the experience of traveling through early America, Delaware and New Castle during the two centuries ending in 1851. Not solely focused on modes of transportation, The Perfection of Travelling presents the differing perspectives and experiences of various people through original journals, images and artifacts.
